Friday, March 4th - Reggie – The Best Cat

On Wednesday, we had to say goodbye to Reggie – our family cat for the last 17 years. Reggie was the best.

She arrived at our home in Indiana as a package deal – with her brother, Boomer – in 1994. We had just moved to Indiana that spring, and this brother-sister duo became the newest addition to our family. Dad immediately declared Reggie and Boomer would be setting up their beds in the backyard shed. Dad’s a sucker, and within a few months, Reggie and Boomer were sleeping under the same roof as the rest of us.

She traveled with the family for various moves across the midwest and beyond. In fact, she’s probably moved more times than the average person. She has lived in five different states. Not many people can say they once lived in Fargo, ND… but Reggie can.

She has happily accompanied the family in all of our adventures. She welcomed Maddie, our black lab puppy, to the family a few years after our move to Indiana. The two of them began their eternal struggle for the queen of the kingdom at home. She outlived her brother by over 7 years, and I think it took her quite some time to realize that no matter how much she meowed, Boomer wasn’t going to come out and play. My parent’s move down to Florida was the latest and last adventure for Reggie, but we are all happy she got to experience the Florida sun and become an even more well-traveled cat.

If I hadn’t seen her for 3 months or a year, it never mattered. As soon as I’d come home, she would instantly recognize me and begin angling for attention. Her meows won’t greet us anymore, and that welcoming sound will be missed. She was different than most cats in this regard – she seemed to care about and want to be around us as much as we cared about and wanted to be around her.

Wednesday, January 26th - Little Sloane

I had the pleasure of meeting Sloane in December on her one-day birthday, and now, nearly a month later, I was able to see her this past weekend while on a quick business trip. She finally decided to open her eyes for me, squirm around a little bit and be a constant source of humor for her mom and dad.

Monday, December 27th - 10 in ’10: Weddings

To wrap up the year, I wanted to look through my photos and compile a few lists of the things I enjoy shooting. I will be posting the top 10 photos across 10 categories to close out 2010. These 10 categories will be: Books, Film, Portraits, Projects, Sports, Weddings, Cityscapes, Travel, Videos and Live Music. Last year, I made similar lists, and you can see my 9 in ’09 here.

The last few years have been filled with weddings for friends and family. I traveled to several different states for weddings this year – New York, Washington, North Carolina, Missouri, etc. While the travel is tough, the ceremonies and parties are well worth it. Each wedding is like a mini-reunion for all of your best friends and absolutely cannot be beat.

While the last few years have been dedicated to weddings, I imagine the next few years will be filled with baby girls and baby boys. Several of my closest friends have had new additions to their families at the end of this year already, and I can’t wait to meet their new family members over the coming years.

Tuesday, December 21st - Film Pitchfork Portraits

I recently looked through some older rolls of film from the summer. I had completely overlooked this strip, and it has a series of great portraits that I personally really like.

Monday, December 20th - Half Acre Beer Company On Photon Party – 12/18/10

BEER (Half Acre, Goose Island, Metropolitan, Pipeworks, Piece and more) + FOOD (Urban Belly, Derek’s Dogs and Nice Cream) + MUSIC (Mucca Pazza) + ALL YOU CAN DRINK & EAT = ON PHOTON.

When tickets went on sale a couple weeks ago, they sold out in less than an hour. This party did not disappoint. I’m sure the Half Acre guys will put on several more successful events like the On Photon party, and the tickets will be even harder to get your hands on once word of this party spreads. Having a brewery like this in Chicago is great for the city and great for fans of craft beers. Can’t wait for the next event.

Note: Pipeworks was one of the highlight breweries for me at this party. I loved their Abduction Ale and Smoked Porter. These local Chicago guys are running their own Kickstarter campaign as I write this – looking to raise $30k before January 1st – and they are oh so close to their goal. Spend a little bit to help them get started (click here) – their beers deserve to be in your refrigerator.

Here are some of my favorite pics of the evening. You can see them all below – or click here for the full Flickr set.

Tuesday, December 14th - 2010 Christmas Party – The Return of the Grinch

Last weekend, we had our annual Grinch party. The Grinch juice clouded everyone’s memory of the evening, but waking up the next day to several memory cards filled with amazing photos was a definite treat. I do have some actual video that I hope to put to good use at some point, but I haven’t looked through it all yet. The footage is great and captures events that led to an injury Garro described to me as “shake weight elbow”.

We had a great time, and once again, the photo booth was available. This year I decided to roam around the party and snap some photos of the action, which I then pieced together into a stop-motion style video. I sprinkled in some photo booth shots as well.

Below are some of my favorite photo booth shots, along with the stop-motion video (which I originally posted to Facebook). All of the photo booth pics are included below in a nice little viewer or click over to the full set on Flickr.
